About this Panelists/Speakers
Dr. Celia Chomón Zamora was born in Venezuela and raised in Miami, Florida. She has shown a passion for languages since she was young, which is what lead her to pursue a career in linguistics. She completed her doctoral degree in Spanish Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University, where she was awarded the Harold N. Glassman Distinguished Dissertation Award in the social sciences. She attended West Point, is a proud graduate from Florida International University, and has studied various languages, including Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, and Ladino. She is certified in Japanese Tea ceremony and has studied abroad in Italy and Brazil. She taught courses in English literature, Spanish, linguistics, and Japanese for 14 years, ranging from 6th grade through graduate-level university courses, until she decided to forgo the academic field and pursue a career in Quality Assurance. She is currently the Senior Manager of Quality Assurance and Certifications at ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages), and is able to continue to apply her love of language, linguistics, and education to her career. She is currently on her way to earning her Six Sigma Green Belt!
